Account Manager (Meta Advertising)
In-office | Charleston, SC
Matchstick Social is an award-winning, full-service digital marketing agency based in Charleston. Our work spans strategy, branding, websites, content, advertising, and email. We take the time to understand our clients' businesses, give honest guidance, and care about the results.
We are looking for a strategic, highly organized Account Manager to lead client relationships and marketing strategy across a portfolio of accounts. New Account Managers typically begin with 3-6 accounts during their 90-day onboarding period and grow into a portfolio of 8-10 accounts within their first year.
This is a client leadership role with hands-on Meta advertising responsibility. You will personally build, manage, and optimize Meta campaigns for up to six of your accounts while leading the overall strategy across paid media, organic social, content, email, SEO, and web.
A strong understanding of organic social is required. You will set the strategic direction for our in-house Content Producer based on each client's goals, audience, messaging, paid campaigns, and performance. You need to understand what makes organic content effective and how organic social and Meta advertising work together.
We are looking for someone with 2-4 years of agency experience, at least 2 years of hands-on Meta advertising experience, and experience directly managing client relationships. You do not need to execute every marketing channel yourself, but you do need to understand how they work together, know when to bring in the right specialist, and take ownership of the strategy from idea through execution.
Client Management
Serve as the primary point of contact and strategic lead for each account you manage.
Build strong client relationships through proactive communication and dependable follow-through.
Lead monthly strategy meetings, quarterly planning conversations, and regular client communication.
Give clients clear recommendations based on strategy, performance, and an understanding of their business.
Identify risks early and create a plan before they become larger client concerns.
Identify opportunities to expand services when they support the client's goals.
Manage account scope and lead direct conversations about additional work when needed.
Keep clients informed about priorities, progress, performance, and next steps.
Strategy and Organic Social
Develop monthly and quarterly marketing strategies based on each client's business goals.
Create integrated plans connecting paid social, paid search, organic content, email, SEO, and web.
Set the organic social strategy and provide our in-house Content Producer with clear direction around content priorities, messaging, campaign needs, audiences, and opportunities.
Understand how organic social and paid Meta campaigns can support one another and use insights from both to inform strategy.
Write a thorough monthly strategy brief for every account.
Set content themes, campaign concepts, messaging priorities, and production direction.
Build shot lists and coordinate content needs with our production team.
Review content for strategy, accuracy, and brand voice before it reaches the client.
Monitor each client's business, competitors, industry, and market for new opportunities.
Meta Advertising
Personally own Meta advertising for up to six accounts, including strategy, setup, launch, optimization, and reporting.
Set campaign objectives, structure, audiences, placements, and budgets based on each client's goals.
Write clear creative briefs and request new creative based on performance.
Monitor pacing and results throughout the month, not only when reports are due.
Make timely adjustments when campaigns are not performing as expected.
Manage client budgets responsibly and speak up when spending is not producing meaningful results.
Maintain accurate tracking and recognize when tracking issues or incomplete data may be affecting performance.
Explain advertising results in clear business terms and come prepared with recommendations.
Work closely with our advertising team on accounts you do not personally manage in Meta to make sure paid media supports the larger account strategy.
Team Collaboration and Account Performance
Work closely with our Content Producer, designers, photographers, copywriters, developers, advertising specialists, and leadership team.
Give clear direction and useful feedback to keep work aligned with strategy and moving on schedule.
Maintain thorough account notes and documentation.
Monitor overall account performance and client satisfaction throughout the month.
Build and present monthly reports explaining what happened, why it happened, and what should happen next.
Connect results across active marketing channels and translate performance into clear business insights.
Identify concerns related to communication, performance, scope, or client satisfaction early and take action.
Day in the Life
A day in this role might look like…
You start your morning with a weekly check-in with the Account Director to talk through account priorities, upcoming deadlines, client needs, and where additional team support is needed. From there, you move into checking on Meta campaigns across your accounts, making optimizations, and flagging opportunities for new creative, messaging, or targeting tests. You also collaborate with the team Photographer and Content Producer to plan an upcoming client shoot or map out the next month of organic social content.
Throughout the day, you move between accounts: responding to client emails, reviewing content before approval, following up on open projects, planning monthly organic content creative direction, and coordinating with the broader team as needed to keep work moving. Later in the day, you lead a bi-weekly client meeting to review advertising performance and broader marketing priorities, explain what the results mean for the business, and recommend what to test or adjust next.
No two days at Matchstick look exactly the same. You’ll move between client strategy, Meta campaign management, content planning, creative collaboration, and account leadership each day while always keeping the bigger picture of each client’s business in mind.
Requirements
2-4 years of agency experience in account management, client services, or a related client-facing role.
Direct experience owning client relationships, not only coordinating projects.
At least 2 years of hands-on Meta advertising experience.
Experience personally building, launching, managing, and optimizing campaigns in Meta Ads Manager.
Experience managing real advertising budgets and making optimization decisions based on performance.
Ability to explain a campaign that was not performing, what you changed, and what happened as a result.
Strong knowledge of organic social strategy, content planning, and channel best practices.
Ability to provide strategic organic social direction to a content or creative team based on client goals and performance.
Strong understanding of how paid social and organic social work together, along with a working understanding of paid search, email, SEO, and web.
Experience managing multiple accounts, deadlines, approvals, and priorities in an agency setting.
Strong writing and communication skills across briefs, reports, meetings, and client communication.
Ability to review performance data and explain what it means for the client's business.
Comfortable leading direct conversations about scope, budget, expectations, and performance.
Google Ads experience is a plus, but not required.
Able to work in person at our Charleston office Monday through Thursday, with the option to work from home on Fridays.
The Meta advertising requirement is firm. Candidates should be prepared to discuss campaigns they have personally built and managed, including budget, strategy, performance, and optimization decisions.
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who takes ownership and follows work through to completion. You should be just as comfortable leading a client strategy meeting as you are opening Ads Manager later that afternoon to figure out why a campaign is underperforming.
You are organized enough to manage several clients and priorities at once without losing the details. You communicate clearly, ask good questions, give useful feedback, and speak up early when something needs attention.
Most importantly, you are interested in how a client's business actually works. You want to understand what they are trying to accomplish, identify where marketing can make a difference, and bring forward ideas instead of waiting for the client to tell you what to do.
Our goal is for clients to feel like they have an in-house marketing department, not an outside vendor. We are looking for an Account Manager who wants to build that kind of relationship.
Compensation
$60,000 to $72,000 base salary depending on experience, with bonus opportunity. Candidates who bring strong, proven digital advertising experience may be considered above this range.
