Position Summary
The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing integrated marketing and communications strategies that support the Association’s mission, brand, and strategic objectives. Working in collaboration with senior leadership, this role leads media relations, public communications, digital marketing, and brand management efforts to enhance visibility, engagement, and stakeholder trust. The position requires a strategic thinker with strong execution skills who can operate effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, with a strong emphasis on high-volume, real-time digital engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Partner with CEO and senior leadership to develop and execute an integrated marketing and communications strategy aligned with the Association’s strategic plan.Develop and maintain consistent messaging aligned with the Association’s mission and brand.Support development of short- and long-term marketing initiatives.Provide reporting and insights to inform strategy and improve results.Lead brand and product marketing efforts to strengthen organizational visibility and positioning.Oversee media and public information programs to ensure consistent, accurate messaging.Produce and update marketing materials, including digital and website content.Plan and execute multi-channel digital marketing campaigns.Maintain website content in coordination with developers.Manage social media strategy, including:Monthly content calendar developmentHigh-frequency posting (daily across all platforms)Real-time monitoring and audience engagementEscalation and response to sensitive or inappropriate contentContent curation and amplification from industry sourcesTrack and analyze marketing, media, and social performance metrics.Support real-time response during high-visibility situations.Participate in meetings, cross-functional initiatives, and professional development.Participate in staff meetings, development opportunities, and perform other duties as assigned by senior staff.
Supervisory Responsibilities
None (may oversee volunteers or temporary staff as needed)
Required Skills and Abilities
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.Strong organizational abilities with keen attention to detail.Proven time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.Comfortable working in a fast-paced and occasionally high-pressure environment.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and the ability to quickly learn new software and membership database systems.Strong general computer skills, including data entry and database management.Ability to engage and relate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and communities.Multimedia background essential including videography and editing
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred, or a combination of education and relevant professional experience.Minimum of 2 years of experience in customer service, membership, or a related administrative field preferred.Experience in nonprofit, association, or member-based environments is a plus.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time, including occasional floor-level work.Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.Ability to maintain alertness and attention during long or busy shifts.Physical ability to bend, kneel, lean, and move quickly in response to emergency situations.Clear, concise verbal communication and effective listening skills.Ability to use a computer and enter data for extended periods without strain.Visual and auditory capacity to respond effectively in both routine and critical situations.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $55,000 – $65,000 annually, based on experience.Paid Time Off (PTO): Vacation, sick leave, 9 paid holidays, 2 floating holidays , and 2 volunteer days annually.Health Benefits: Employer-paid medical, dental, vision, and basic life/AD&D insurance for the employee.Retirement: 401(k) plan with immediate eligibility for employee contributions and employer safe harbor contributions after 1 year of service.
