Director of Marketing and Communications

Summary: This results-driven leader will oversee the organization’s brand and reputation, marketing assets, communications, events,

and other strategic initiatives that drive project acquisition and investor value. We are seeking a leader who can create a vision,

formulate a strategy, and bring it to life with strong operational capabilities. This position is responsible for all facets of the organization’s

marketing and communications department and has direct responsibility for the execution of a marketing, communications, and events

strategy to help EDCUtah achieve its revenue and program goals.

How this job supports EDCUtah’s Mission: The director of marketing & communications will play an essential role in

communicating the “why” behind EDCUtah’s vision and mission to its target audiences. This position will develop and deploy strategic

marketing and communications plans to support economic competitiveness initiatives and strategic partnerships aimed at ensuring

Utah’s sustainable growth and prosperity.

Primary Duties

● Create and execute a strategic annual marketing plan and long-term strategy that helps the overall organization achieve its

goals.

● Own, evolve, and sharpen the Team Utah brand, messaging, and positioning in the market.

● Develop and deploy marketing plans to support EDCUtah’s strategic partnerships and economic competitiveness initiatives.

● Foster a customer-centric approach to marketing and ensure ideal audience segments and personas are engaged with the

right messaging at the right time in the right format through the right channel.

● Execute and manage our team to produce compelling, customer-centric events and content for EDCUtah’s audience

segments. This includes content and events for attracting and retaining investors; content and events to promote business

recruitment and retention in the state of Utah; as well as positioning and promoting the data, research, and content produced

by our research team.

● Orchestrate the brand design and messaging across all channels and functions of EDCUtah.

● Utilize data, insights, and analytics to measure the impact of marketing programs and strive to continuously improve impact.

● Act as both architect and steward of the brand by creating and telling brand stories and inviting audience stakeholders to

participate in the narrative.

● Work collaboratively across the business development, strategic partnerships, research, and community strategy teams

to ensure we are aligning objectives across the organization and meeting the needs of our diverse audiences.

● Lead competitive intelligence and analysis to provide a clear view of the marketplace and our position and differentiation within

it.

● Develop and craft PR strategies, pitch stories, write press releases, and responding to inquiries from journalists.

Minimum Qualifications

● Experience leading a marketing and communications team with limited resources (familiarity with economic development a

plus).

● Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team, optimizing processes and performance.

● Superb analytical skills and a data-driven approach to evaluating and enhancing marketing activities.

● Expertise managing a diverse marketing portfolio—including events, content development, and digital infrastructure—to drive

awareness, offer value, and support sustainable operations.

● Passionate client advocacy and a deep understanding of shifts in audience and stakeholder sentiment.

● Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
