HR Assistant (Wage) – Communications Specialist

**About the Position:**

The George Mason University Resources Department is looking for a passionate and enthusiastic individual to serve as a part-time Communications Specialist. **Responsibilities:**

* Coordinate and implement internal communication plans on key initiatives, programs, policies, or issues;
* Write, edit, and proofread assigned documents, including memorandums, marketing materials, technical guides, and website copy;
* Perform routine updates to HR's website as requested by department colleagues and leadership;
* Manage the HR communications email inbox, including referring complex issues to appropriate contacts as necessary;
* Update HR's social media channels according to communication plans and/or supervisor direction;
* Create graphics or visuals, including logos or other visual communication elements; and
* Other related duties as assigned.

**Required Qualifications:**

* Strong writing and editing skills, preferably in a deadline-based environment;
* Ability to translate technical policies into plain and engaging language based on target audiences' needs;
* Experience with web content management systems such as WordPress or Drupal;
* Experience with graphic design platforms such as Canva or Adobe Illustrator;
* Ability to work independently and prioritize deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
* Ability to handle confidential or highly sensitive information with discretion;
* Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
* Ability to collaborate across teams/departments and maintain effective working relationships; and
* Proficiency in Microsoft 365 programs, particularly Word.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

* Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, English, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
* Higher education, public workforce, or human resources experience;
* Working knowledge of web design and/or web accessibility; and
* Experience managing professional social media accounts, including LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter/X.
