Location: This position reports to our Sebastopol office 5 days/week with regular travel to the Anderson Valley
Salary range: $120,000 - $135,000 (with full benefits including 401K & company match, medical benefits, dental, and vision insurance, long-term disability insurance, life, and AD&D insurance, PTO, Paid Holidays, Flexible spending account)
We are seeking a well-spoken, dynamic business manager to drive brand marketing strategy business for our portfolio of California wineries.
This position provides an opportunity for tremendous personal growth working alongside the Wineries President while leading several iconic wine industry brands to the next level. A rigorous understanding of wine and the wine business combined with experience in building brands and best-in-class consumer engagement along with strong leadership skills will provide the platform for success. The Director possesses a unique combination of skills. Bringing together strong business management and acumen rooted in sound analysis with a strong understanding of brand marketing, digital marketing and public relations, as well as compelling and supportive leadership. This manager will drive their teams to deliver financial and strategic results and exceptional service standards.
We are looking for a change agent who can re-craft and grow our business across existing and new channels, developing a powerful strategy and driving it to successful execution. This manager has an entrepreneurial spirit and drive to move their business forward creatively but also works well within an environment that seeks to gain efficiencies and synergies across the portfolio of the family wineries.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Business Leadership
• Guide a vision and strategy for the business that aligns with the values of each winery and the brand family, and includes a cohesive view across the multiple channels
• Design and execute strategy for global development of cross-brand promotion through DTC channel
• Lead consumer, category and competitive analysis to drive insights and innovation
• Develop and execute tactical plans against these strategies to deliver consistent and impressive financial growth and strategic results.
P&L and Results Management
• Drive financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting for Marketing operations.
• Track and report on results as needed for management and for staff, including sales performance and other key metrics. Deliver monthly and ad hoc analyses of business results to management. Correct course as needed to deliver against goals.
• Develop expanded key performance metrics and track with team to drive results.
• Drive and conduct business analyses across channels and develop sound business plans from these findings.
Marketing – Brand, Public Relations, Digital and Trade Marketing
• Lead the execution and communication of long-term growth plans that deliver to brand goals for our California Wineries, including, annual strategic brand planning process, monthly demand forecasts, price positioning, and channel commercialization strategy.
• Develop brand and wholesale marketing programs that deliver against the annual volume/profit targets and grow customer affinity and awareness, including national/regional promotions, print and digital advertising strategy, social media, brand websites, packaging, public relations, events, and training material
• Ensure marketing and branding message is consistent with brand standards across all channels and consumer touch points. Work with President to develop needed marketing creative materials, including collateral, advertisements and signage.
• Provide support in new product development and line extensions, partnering cross-functionally to implement package changes and product launches
• Manages the development of the creative content of P.O.S. merchandising, brand advertising and related promotional materials
• Liaise with national marketing at Distributor and PR teams to ensure all programs work toward common winery/brand goals and objectives.
• Analyze sales, market, and consumer data to effectively manage the business; have a strong understanding of category including key drivers, overall competitive framework, brand/product landscape.
• Responsible for development of training and selling materials, communication of brand strategies and product information to personnel, distributors, importers, and customers
• Be a brand champion and ambassador to both internal and external audiences.
People Leadership and Management
• This position has two (2) direct reports (Marketing Associate and Communications Director)
• Lead, inspire, manage, motivate, coach and mentor staff -- including both direct reports and broader team – to optimize team morale and performance. Activities include staff planning, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, firing, training, goal setting, assigning and directing work, conducting performance reviews, and addressing/resolving problems.
• Drive team training and professional development efforts to ensure growth and excellence in skills and knowledge.
• Build and ensure highest levels of teamwork and inter-departmental cohesion.
Business Operations
• Manage complexities of logistics and operations and resolve any issues.
• Smart management of allocation strategy across sales channels
• Oversee vintage transitions in conjunction with winemakers, monitor inventories and put appropriate programs in place to effectively and strategically manage wine supply.
• Collaborate and establish production needs for the winery based on well-developed sales forecasts.
• Maintain current release and library pricing in accordance with pricing standards.
• Design systems and processes to ensure efficient, effective and consistent business operations.
• Execute other management and hands-on tasks as required.
• Complete special projects as needed by management.
SKILLS and EXPERIENCE:
Qualifications
• 10+ years of experience in Marketing and DTC across a variety of channels
• BA or BS in marketing or other business-related degree
• High level of wine knowledge, Luxury wine preferred
• Proven leadership skills and a demonstrated track record of success
• Strong quantitative competency, including ability to accurately forecast and plan across channels
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to constructively manage others
• Excellent project management skills
• Experience with marketing programs across a variety of platforms, including print, email, mobile, online and social media
• Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles
• High level of proficiency with MS Office programs as well as POS, CRM and database management systems (the wineries currently use Commerce7)
• Ability to travel
