Poor Richard's is a beloved, community-centered destination in downtown Colorado Springs, bringing together books, toys, food, coffee, events, and connection under one roof. We are seeking a creative, organized, and innovative Marketing & Community Engagement Specialist to lead digital marketing, content creation, public relations, event promotion, and community outreach across all Poor Richard's businesses.
This is a hands-on role for someone who loves storytelling, social media, photography, community building, and creating meaningful experiences that bring people together. You'll help shape our brand, engage our audiences, and grow our impact both online and in person.
Position Summary
The Marketing & Community Engagement Specialist will develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies that enhance brand visibility, strengthen community relationships, drive customer engagement, and support business growth. The ideal candidate combines creativity with analytical thinking, possesses strong communication skills, and is passionate about building connections through compelling content and community engagement.
Key ResponsibilitiesMarketing Strategy & Content Creation
Develop and execute annual, quarterly, and monthly marketing plans aligned with organizational goals.
Create compelling content for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, email campaigns, websites, and other digital platforms.
Produce and edit photography, video, graphics, blog posts, and promotional materials.
Write engaging copy for social media, newsletters, advertisements, event promotions, and public relations efforts.
Review and approve marketing content created by other team members.
Maintain brand consistency across all digital and print channels.
Social Media Management
Develop, implement, and manage social media campaigns that increase awareness, engagement, and customer loyalty.
Schedule and manage content calendars using social media management tools.
Monitor comments, messages, reviews, and customer interactions.
Utilize social listening tools to monitor brand reputation, industry trends, and customer feedback.
Build meaningful relationships with followers and community members through active engagement.
Digital Marketing & Analytics
Conduct market research and track consumer trends.
Perform keyword research and implement SEO best practices to improve online visibility.
Monitor website traffic, social media performance, customer engagement, and conversion metrics.
Utilize Google Analytics and other reporting tools to assess campaign effectiveness.
Prepare monthly marketing reports with insights and recommendations.
Plan and execute paid advertising campaigns across Facebook, Instagram, Google, and other digital platforms.
Community Outreach & Public Relations
Coordinate and promote events including author talks, live music, children's programming, birthday parties, community gatherings, and special promotions.
Serve as the primary contact for musical acts and entertainment programming at Rico's.
Build relationships with schools, nonprofits, community organizations, media outlets, and local partners.
Attend community meetings and represent Poor Richard's within the Colorado Springs community.
Coordinate press releases, media outreach, and public relations opportunities.
Manage sponsorship, donation, and partnership requests.
Website & Reputation Management
Maintain and update company websites and online listings, including Google Business Profiles, Yelp, Bookshop.org, Toast, and other platforms.
Monitor and respond to online reviews and customer inquiries.
Ensure information across all digital platforms remains accurate and up to date.
Support e-commerce and online sales initiatives through targeted marketing campaigns.
Collaboration & Team Support
Work closely with owners, managers, buyers, event coordinators, and creative partners.
Track projects and marketing initiatives to ensure timely execution.
Support customer service efforts when needed as part of our collaborative team culture.
Assist with basic technology and digital platform troubleshooting when able.
QualificationsRequired
Experience in digital marketing, social media management, communications, public relations, or a related field.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to create engaging content across multiple platforms.
Experience with social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Photography and/or video creation experience.
Experience analyzing marketing data and translating insights into action.
Preferred
Proficiency with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator), Affinity Suite, or similar design tools.
Experience with social media scheduling tools such as Hootsuite, Buffer, or Meta Business Suite.
Knowledge of SEO, Google Analytics, and digital advertising.
Experience with email marketing platforms such as Flodesk.
Event planning or community engagement experience.
Experience working in retail, hospitality, bookstores, restaurants, or community-focused businesses.
Familiarity with the Colorado Springs community and local organizations.
Compensation & Benefits
$21–$27 per hour, depending on experience.
