Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

The Media and Marketing Manager works closely with key stakeholders to develop and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy to elevate the Fowler School of Law’s public profile and to promote the school’s JD program, faculty accomplishments, and other programs and events to external audiences, with a focus on digital strategies. This position strategically develops targeted communications for external constituencies, including prospective students, alumni, local and regional legal communities, the legal academy, and potential and established donors.

Responsibilities

**Content Strategy and Social Media Management**

* Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive digital content strategy, production calendar, and posting cadence that engages internal audiences (students, staff, faculty, and the broader university) and external audiences (prospective students, alumni, the Southern California legal community, and the national legal profession).
* Own day-to-day management of all Fowler School of Law (FSOL) social media channels: content planning, production, scheduling, publishing, community management, daily monitoring of discussions and comments, and escalation of issues requiring leadership attention.
* Conceptualize, produce, and format original content — writing, graphic design, photography, video, and motion graphics — optimized for the conventions and audience expectations of each individual platform.
* Serve as the brand steward for FSOL, maintaining voice, visual identity, and message integrity across every digital, print, and in-person touchpoint, in accordance with Chapman University brand guidelines.
* Advise on media developments, channel selection, and the appropriate use of media for their specific purposes.

**Web, Media, and Marketing**

* Manage day-to-day maintenance, updates, and publishing for the FSOL section of the public-facing university website, the FSOL blog, and the school’s internal document and announcement site.
* Plan, create, edit, and maintain all associated digital assets, applying web and graphic design, photography and photo editing, copywriting, and copy editing skills.
* Own the content lifecycle for FSOL web properties: conduct regular content audits, retire or consolidate outdated pages, and maintain accuracy of faculty profiles, program pages, admissions information, and outcomes data.
* Ensure all digital content meets accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA or current university standard), including alt text, caption, and transcript provision for video and audio, color contrast, heading structure, and accessible document formats.
* Maintain a digital asset management system and organized archive of photography, video, logos, templates and approved copy, with clear rights, consent and usage documentation.
* Design, build, test, deploy, and report on mass email campaigns, including newsletters, event promotion, announcements, alumni communications, and recruitment support messaging.

**Print Media and Publications**

* Produce all print collateral supporting the school’s event calendar, including programs, posters, invitations, signage, and poster-sized infographics.
* Provide editorial management, graphic design, photography and photo editing, layout and production management for the school’s print publications, including story development, assignment, editing, fact-checking, design, proofing, print vendor coordination, and distribution.
* Create, update, and manage additional print materials, including the FSOL Viewbook, flyers, advertisements, mass-mailing pieces, and announcements, coordinating among stakeholders to meet purpose, deadline, and budgetary specifications.
* Manage relationships with print vendors and mail houses: obtain quotes, negotiate specifications, oversee press checks and quality control, track costs against budget, and manage inventory to reduce waste and reprint cycles.

**Photography and Videography**

* Manage photography of law school events, including commencement, symposia, competitions, speaker series, admitted-student programs, and community events; edit and repurpose images for social, web, print, and media relations use.
* Plan, shoot, and edit video content ranging from short-form social video to faculty interviews, program overviews, and event highlight pieces; manage captioning, audio quality, and accessibility deliverables.
* Direct and quality-control external photographers, videographers, designers, and student assistants when capacity or production scale requires supplemental support.

**Analytics and Reporting**

* Establish digital marketing goals, targets, and benchmarks aligned to FSOL’s strategic marketing priorities, and monitor performance.
* Produce monthly performance and engagement reports for school leadership covering web, social, email, paid media, and print-linked activity, with interpretation, insight, and specific recommendations to inform future strategy and content production.
* Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support departmental and organizational needs.

Required Qualifications

* Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a marketing role for a business, non-profit, or similar professional organization.
* Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as necessary to meet business and organizational needs.
* Demonstrated ability to develop and execute an integrated marketing communications strategy across digital and print channels for a complex organization with multiple stakeholder groups.
* Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the judgment to adapt voice and depth for audiences ranging from prospective applicants to practicing attorneys, judges, and journalists.
* Proficiency in graphic design and layout (Adobe Creative Suite or equivalent), photography and photo editing, and video production and editing.
* Working knowledge of web content management systems, HTML/CSS fundamentals, search optimization practice, structured data, and web accessibility standards.
* Proficiency with email marketing platforms (Mailchimp or equivalent), audience segmentation, and marketing automation concepts.
* Fluency with analytics and reporting tools, and the ability to translate data into clear narrative recommendations for non-technical leadership.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professionalism, discretion, diplomacy, and ethical judgment in all aspects of work.
* Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, administrators, staff, vendors, and external stakeholders.
* Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage concurrent deadlines, production cycles, and event calendars with limited supervision.

Desired Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, marketing, business, public relations, or related field.
* Familiarity with legal education, the legal profession, or professional-school marketing
