Purpose of Job:

The Social Media Specialist serves the Director of Communications by independently administering GOAL High School’s statewide social media and digital marketing function. The position analyzes audience, platform, enrollment-referral, and campaign data; determines channel, targeting, timing, testing, and optimization approaches within established organizational objectives and budget authority; and advises the Director of Communications on matters that materially affect statewide message delivery, brand reputation, audience growth, and campaign performance.

The role exercises independent judgment in translating Communications priorities into campaign plans, resolving competing regional and platform needs, allocating approved campaign resources, managing elevated platform or brand issues, and recommending changes to Communications policies and practices. The position coordinates student-intern project contributions and evaluates progress against established deliverables. Final institutional positions, crisis communications, and expenditures outside delegated authority remain with Communications leadership.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Digital Marketing & Social Media

Develop and administer statewide social media and digital marketing plans that translate organizational priorities, enrollment goals, brand standards, and audience needs into channel-specific campaign strategy.
Exercise independent judgment to establish and revise campaign calendars, publishing cadence, targeting plans, content priorities, platform workflows, and cross-platform distribution methods within Communications objectives.
Analyze platform activity, audience behavior, emerging trends, and performance variance; independently select routine optimization actions and advise the Director on significant strategic or reputational implications.

Analytics, Targeting & Compliance

Define and maintain performance measures for impressions, reach, engagement, click activity, audience growth, referrals, conversions, and campaign results; interpret findings for Communications decision-making.
Evaluate campaign objectives, targeting settings, publishing activity, budget utilization, results, and after-action findings; prepare decision-ready analyses and recommendations for the Director of Communications.
Allocate and adjust paid or boosted campaign resources within delegated budget authority; determine audiences, placements, testing methods, pacing, and optimization actions based on campaign evidence and organizational priorities.
Interpret and apply accessibility, student-privacy, brand-governance, account-security, platform-access, and documentation requirements; resolve routine compliance questions and elevate high-risk or precedent-setting issues.

Statewide & Regional Support

Consult with regional leaders to assess events, partnerships, accomplishments, programs, and stories; determine relative social-media priority and statewide or regional treatment.
Set regional content-planning and event-coverage approaches within centralized brand standards, balancing statewide priorities, local conditions, audience needs, and available resources.
Advise and partner with the Public Relations Specialist and Communications creative staff to integrate social media, earned media, community engagement, and statewide storytelling strategies.

Collaboration & Reporting

Serve as the principal social-media advisor to the Director of Communications and coordinate priorities with the Public Relations Specialist, Information Services staff, regional leaders, and Communications creative staff.
Assign and prioritize approved student-intern project work; establish deliverables, provide technical and editorial direction, evaluate work quality and progress, and advise the Director of Communications regarding project performance and corrective needs.
Design and maintain KPI reports, campaign documentation, platform analytics, targeting records, decision logs, and project records that support leadership oversight and strategic decisions.
Independently manage competing deadlines and determine when operational, compliance, budget, brand, or reputational matters require leadership escalation.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Advanced working knowledge of YouTube; Meta platforms, Facebook, and Instagram; Snapchat; LinkedIn; and TikTok, including publishing workflows, content formats, audience behavior, discoverability, and engagement practices.
Ability to independently determine platform-specific approaches to organic and paid reach, including audience targeting, account optimization, publishing cadence, metadata, captions, keywords, hashtags, thumbnails, video practices, and cross-platform adaptation.
Ability to analyze social-media algorithms and distribution signals, design and evaluate tests, draw conclusions from variable data, and select or recommend consequential campaign adjustments.
Ability to exercise delegated authority overpaid, boosted, or targeted campaigns, including resource allocation, audiences, placements, pacing, testing, optimization, and risk controls.
Ability to synthesize native-platform analytics, Google Analytics, and social-media management data into independent assessments and decision-ready recommendations.
Strong organizational, writing, editing, proofreading, visual storytelling, project-management, and quality-control skills.
Ability to coordinate contributors, approvals, handoffs, regional needs, and time-sensitive publishing while maintaining accurate records.
Understanding of digital accessibility, student privacy, brand governance, account security, platform access controls, and escalation practices.
Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion on matters affecting campaign performance, brand governance, resource allocation, statewide coordination, and Communications operations.

Work Environment

Primary work location is in-office at the Pueblo Admin Center, with virtual and regional event work as assigned.
Regular computer, mobile-device, social-platform, content-management, video, photography, and collaboration-tool use.
Must maintain availability and communication in accordance with Information Services Department expectations, including timely responses and accurate documentation.
Work may involve changing priorities, time-sensitive publishing needs, event schedules, and coordination across multiple regions.
This exempt position may participate in an on-call schedule established by the Director of Communications and may occasionally respond to time-sensitive platform, campaign, account-security, or reputational matters outside regular business hours.
